I have two advent calendars - one is a feather tree held by a snowman figurine, for each day you put a little ornament on the tree to count down. The second one was made by my mother-in-law - she made a tree of fabric yo-yos, each centered with a button, and again, you hang mini-ornaments for each day. The tree is swen onto a banner made from Christmas fabric. I'll bring photos to church to show you!
My brother made an advent calendar from muslin bags with red drawstring closures, handstamped the dates, and hung them from a large candleabra that they use all year, with a little present inside for their daughter to open each day.
