Joyful Joyful #4: Advent Calendars
Growing up, one of my favorite Christmas traditions was my family’s advent calendar. It was a big cloth banner hanging on the wall- each pocket held a mini candy cane. I loved grabbing the candy cane out of the pocket each day on my way to school. Last year, I bought materials to make one, but ran out of time. Guess what I am doing today and tomorrow?
I did some searching for creative ideas for advent calendars to give you some inspiration if you are making your own.
I love this simple but super cute hanging Advent Calendar from Etsy seller zfla:

I love this quilted advent calendar by Pink Chalk Studio that I found on Fickr:

You can make a simple advent calendar without sewing as well. Here are a couple of DIY ideas, found on flikr:

You should check out the cookiesheet advent calendars at http://www.tatertotsandjello.blogspot.com. They are super cute!
I have two advent calendars – one is a feather tree held by a snowman figurine, for each day you put a little ornament on the tree to count down. The second one was made by my mother-in-law – she made a tree of fabric yo-yos, each centered with a button, and again, you hang mini-ornaments for each day. The tree is swen onto a banner made from Christmas fabric. I’ll bring photos to church to show you!
My brother made an advent calendar from muslin bags with red drawstring closures, handstamped the dates, and hung them from a large candleabra that they use all year, with a little present inside for their daughter to open each day.
